My review for this game was going to focus on the interesting world, the cute character, but also a rather weird difficulty spike in the middle. I ended up getting through things that it felt like i needed not only frame perfect but near angle perfect wall kicks to get past them. I then found the slide jump that I had walked by a thousand times along with the wall run and realized i had been sequence breaking this whole time. For a metroidvania with a movement focus i can’t not recommend it for that. This was a lot of fun! A nicely self-contained platformer with gratifying movement/level design, plus I’m a sucker for the aesthetic direction of that 5th gen early 3D hardware, and the dreamlike ruins setting. Complete with a cool furry with a bubble butt that does cool backflips, this is one of those games that feels tailor made for me lol I really enjoyed how levels felt just big enough that they weren’t overwhelmingly sprawling, but big enough to get lost in for a bit while you made sense of it and soaked the place in – small enough for not having a map to feel reasonable and honestly exciting, because you really have to explore things yourself. Small enough too for the lack of fast travel to not be a drag either. Rooms were tricky platforming puzzles or just generally fun places to traverse and as backtracking becomes necessary you know the place better and get more tools to get around quicker and easier.
