I can understand why so many were disappointed with RE3 when it was released, but I think this game is fine. Yeah, there are quite a few set pieces and the game lacks the backtracking and puzzles of Resident Evil. Yet the core gameplay is still as tight as ever and even improved upon from RE2 with the dodge mechanic making it’s return from the original RE3. Everything from the soundtrack, presentation, cutscenes, and sound design is great. Yes, the game is short and it’s not really a bad thing since it encourages you to play the game again on higher difficulties to challenge yourself. It also makes it less of a slog when you’re replaying to do challenges (no healing, item box, etc.) since there’s no moment in the game where it feels annoying to get through (other than the semi-lengthy opening). What’s disappointing is the lack of extra content compared to RE2 and even older RE titles.
