You’ve inherited your uncle’s potion shop—and a huge debt. Better get brewing! Customize your store, hire heroes to gather ingredients, befriend (or romance) fellow vendors to learn new haggling strategies, and go head-to-head with competitors in this narrative-driven, deck-building shop simulator. This game took 6 years to make because the artists & animators went SO HARD on EVERYTHING. Each character has so much charm and their personalities set them apart. The gameplay elements are all fun. With shop managing like Recettear, the potion making of Atelier, and card negotiations in Slay the Spire what’s not to like? You can even romance some characters too. Also this last part is not a criticism, but you should know there aren’t any voices for the characters, so it’s all left up to the imagination. This game manages to merge 5 unlikely genres into a very nice package. Where many shop management or deck building games aren’t really focused on graphics, Potionomics puts their graphics and character designs up front. The vendors and recurring customers you can befriend and romance put a nice bow on the package of the game, and it really sells it for me. I had a hard time going to sleep on release day because I kept wanting to just play until the next day or until I brewed the next big potion. As you meet the friendly NPCs, if none of them strike your fancy don’t worry! You’ll meet more as you progress.

I’ve been waiting for this game for a while now, I tried the demo and I loved it, but when I bought the game I quickly realized that it’s stressful. Like, really stressful, and not in the challenging video game type of way. It feels as though you’re constantly running out of time, and like you never have enough of anything or the right stuff. Getting goods from Baptiste and Mint are a roll of the dice, and I never got what I needed, not that I knew what those were. Once I got to the competition, I failed. At this point, I’ve tried and failed about 6 times, no matter what cards I bring or how many times I try again from like- day 4. I’m probably going to have to start all over, from day 1 again, in order to figure this out. The first competition shouldn’t be THIS difficult, in my opinion. The animation is wonderful, the gameplay is fun, but the rng and real life stress is a bit much. I might play this as much as I had originally hoped I would. If you’re easily frustrated or expecting a happy card game dating sim combo, I don’t recommend this at all. I’m so disappointed Pretty much everything i’ve ever wanted from a game. Potionomics brings a dizzying amount of genres into a delightful package tied together by immaculate artwork, animations, and music. The characters are charming and the writing is self-aware without being annoying. Each part of the potion-making and selling process is engaging with a respectable amount of depth without ever feeling too micromanagey. I’m excited to keep playing through the days, making profits, and getting to know these goofy characters. Highly recommend. After the untimely death of her uncle, a penniless witch named Sylvia finds herself thrust into the role of potion proprietor. It’s all up to her to carry on her uncle’s legacy and keep his potion shop afloat. Thankfully, she won’t have to go it alone. With help from some new friends, Sylvia must hone her negotiation skills, outsell her craftiest competitors, and make her shop THE number-one potion destination in Rafta. It’s all about mastering the finer points of Potionomics!
