Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition  🙂 – “Ori and the Blind Forest” tells the tale of a young orphan destined for heroics, through a visually stunning Action-Platformer crafted by Moon Studios. Tough but forgiving – getting through challenging bits actually feels rewarding, and totally makes up for the frustration. Feels like an old school platformer that’s been brought into the 21st century; it’s like Castlevania meets Sonic meets Prince of Persia – with a touch of Zelda thrown into the world design. Cute story and beautiful artwork, highly recommended for anyone familiar with old school platformers I liked Ori and the Blind Forest (Def.Ed). It delivered on what I wanted: A 2d-platformer Metroidvania style. I did not get in the story that much but I had fun searching for the secrets and power-ups. I was also frustrated many times during the non-stop quicktime events and I sometimes lost time trying to get secrets that I could not get until later. But overall, I had fun, the music is great and the game is beautiful. A nice title to replay in many years maybe!

Ori and the Blind Forest (OatBF) is an atmospheric platformer/metroidvania. I realize I’m quite spoiled in that I’ve played Hollow Knight and thus have seen what I consider to be the best of the best in the genre, and so while OatBF is generally a really fun and entertaining game, there are some things that have been improved upon in newer games. Namely, the metroidvania aspects of the game are implemented in a mediocre way (e.g. there is some traversing of old terrain, but it doesn’t have the same satisfying feeling of finally getting to that one area that you needed to remember you had to go back to in order to further progress in the game. Instead, once you learned a new ability, you might be able to access a new area, but it seemed like more often than not, you might just be able to pick up an energy or ability cell that you couldn’t before), the terrain is sometimes incredibly frustrating in that it’s not always clear what’s going to hurt you vs. not, and the combat is middling at best. I also didn’t find the storyline compelling at all, though based on discussions with other people, I think I’m in the minority on that point. That said, the atmosphere is great, the puzzles are fun and satisfying to complete, the look of the game itself is really pretty, and there is good flow to most of the gameplay. Overall, the game is easy to recommend and provided quite a few hours of fun, though there are some ways in which the game shows its age. Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition ?️
