We Happy Few Free Download (v1.9.88966)

From the independent studio that brought you Contrast, We Happy Few is an action/adventure game set in a drug-fuelled, retrofuturistic city in an alternative 1960s England. Hide, fight and conform your way out of this delusional, Joy-obsessed world. We Happy Few used to be what felt like an open-world game where side missions were abundant; upon spawning into the game you’d meet a host of new characters with their own quests for you. The starting area is secluded with very little side quests and gated progression into the next area unless you do the heavy scripted main missions. The next area has better side-quests and is much more open. Even then, though, the side quests don’t grant perk points (used for purchasing perks). The game also overlooks quality of life for atmosphere at every single opportunity and most of this stems from the ‘joy’ atmosphere. You can’t run in joy-ridden cities because the citizens frown upon it; yes, this makes sense atmospherically, but you’re forcing players to move at the slowest speeds possible which is not fun. Their remedy for this, rather than implement a jog feature or something of the sort, is a perk that removes the “village annoyance” mechanic entirely. It destroys the atmosphere but you have no choice unless you want to walk everywhere. If you take joy you fill a memory-loss meter which can only be lowered by filling it fully and suffering the debuff (which is short and just plain annoying anyway there’s no reason for it?). There’s just so many small poor decisions on the QoL front that bundle up together. Movement in this game is a problem.

We Happy Few is the tale of a plucky bunch of moderately terrible people trying to escape from a lifetime of cheerful denial in the city of Wellington Wells. In this alternative 1960s England, conformity is key. You’ll have to fight or blend in with the drug-addled inhabitants, most of whom don’t take kindly to people who won’t abide by their not-so-normal rules.Discover the retrofuturistic city’s dark history as you play through the intertwined narratives of three quietly rebellious citizens of Wellington Wells, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, as they face their pasts, prepare for the future, and engage in activities that aren’t exactly status quo in the artificially enthused society. Retrofuturistic 1960s England Set in retrofuturistic 1960s England, you will find a city ravaged by war and rebuilt by delusionally happy people. Everything appears joyful in Wellington Wells, including its roads, its people, and its omnipresent television personality: Uncle Jack! But, it’s actually a world on the brink of collapse. Come unveil its dark history, and discover how and why its residents came to be so beguilingly happy. Three Interwoven Narratives Play as three flawed characters who explore their own connections to the events surrounding the rebuilding of Wellington Wells. They each have a unique storyline in which they interpret and react to the events around them in different ways. As you hide, conform, or fight back as each of them, you will encounter dark humour, a spot of hope, and even some redemption along the way.
