Slavania is dope, what else can I say. Well I can also tell you I love Metroidvania’s, and games in that genera like Ori 1 & 2, Hollow Knight, The Mobius Machine, Ultros, Blasphemous 1 & 2, Axiom Verge, Guacamelee! 1 & 2, Momodora and the list goes on and on. If you love the genera just go ahead and pick up Slavania it is certified fresh! As a Czech Canadian and a proud Slavic by origin I was brought up on the amazing cartoon The Magic Pony or know also as The Humpbacked Horse or Конёк-Горбуно́к. It’s art blew my mind and was as impressive if not more so than the art from my homeland by Josef Lada and Ondřej Sekora. The Magic Pony was watched a 100x as a child in my parents home and to see this same art style in a Metroidvania brings me back to my child hood and it feels good man. The art, style, controls, combat and storey is all wrapped up in a solid package and it delivers. The main weapon you have is a magic spear that you can chuck like Thor’s Hammer and God of War axe which allows you to retrieve it and also use it to traverse to other areas as it sticks into the wall as a platform.
