A bit of an old school hack n’slash adventure, Necroslayer takes a little while to get into, but once you’ve learned the ropes a bit, it’s a really fun action game with a lot of potential. Very much in the tradition of an Elder Scrolls game (or at least the early Elder Scrolls games), there’s not a lot of hand-holding here. While there are some basic tutorial elements, you can skip those and run right off into the adventure, even ignoring the main quest and just running off in the opposite direction if you so desire, though at a low level this could be quite dangerous The game is divided into a number of zones, with occasional side dungeons, some of which are associated with either the main quest or the occasional side-quest you can pick up, and there is a bit of an open-world feeling here, many of these zones are quite large, with bands of enemies to slash or blast your way through, depending on your character build. And there’s quite a few character builds to choose from, three to begin with, and then more as you gradually unlock more characters during your play-through. There’s the traditional fighter types with sword and shield, mage-type characters with magical spells, rogues with daggers, monks with fists, priests with maces, and some more unique and challenging characters besides, each with pros and cons.

Play as one of several characters unlocked through the story, each with a unique load out and stats, with meta progression to improve survivability each play through. Add a ton of different weapons that you can gain by killing necromancers, and you’ve got the making for a game with a ton of replayability. From crossbows to pole-arms, great swords to throwing axes, and a variety of ghost weapons, all of which are dropped randomly and can be upgraded over time, each play-through is going to be a bit different from the last.
