Peglin follows the Slay the Spire formula, but isn’t finely tuned enough to make it shine. Instead, the StS formula holds Peglin back from achieving its potential. The overall systems encourage deck building and shifting your strategy as you go, but Peglin’s combat seems to actively punish going all-in on a single strategy. This is because the game has so much inherent randomness that no matter what “build” you aim toward, the best strategy will always include the same few items. That randomness is also applied to the map navigation, which can be incredibly frustrating at times.
