Slash, smash, launch, and wall-splat a multitude of enemies using an ever-changing arsenal of divine powers. People keep comparing Spiritfall to other games, which I’m sure are all very nice, but I don’t know any of them. What I do know is that this is the first game that ever made me feel like I could be a gamer. Am I bad at it? Yes. Very. I am awful at this game. But lord I love it to bits. So instead of saying “you’ll love this if you liked X other game” I’ll say “you’ll love this if you love just being a little guy, bouncing around, having fun with magic” and “you’ll love this if you love fun art and awesome character/enemy design” and “you’ll probably love this in general.”

A simple and fun action roguelike with fluid combos and movement that make the game pure joy to play. The core feel of the game is so smooth, and each of the spirit’s blessings gives interesting additions to your combat options without ever feeling like too much or too little. Exploring different blessings to create combos or synergies makes each run a blast, especially since the game feels so open with its fights and enemies that it never feels like you “need” a certain build in order to progress. Enemies themselves have a healthy balance of vulnerable comboability and risky attack patterns, with early enemies giving you plenty of time to get in and start swinging and late enemies keeping you on your toes for the right opportunity. This game’s only real problem is a lack of content, being very quick to play to completion, but this is expected with an early access game that will be receiving rapid updates. I’m not normally one to write reviews, but this is a gem of a game that I can’t wait to see grow more.
