it tackles a plethora of complicated themes, some of which few games have dared to touch before. There are just as many funny scenes as there are somber ones, and the whole thing is packed with cool references and secret achievements that make the game even more exciting! The game juggles two unique worlds incredibly well, seamlessly blending two very different atmospheres together throughout the course of the story. The visuals are pretty dang beautiful, and I thoroughly enjoyed exploring all the different areas and secret nooks and cranbnies it had to offer. In addition, OMORI’S music is absolutely phenomenal, so much so that I found myself listening to tons of tracks on repeat after finishing the game! Every boss fight is accompanied by an incredible song, and each section of the story, both the lighthearted and scary, has the perfect choice of music to go alongside it. The core gameplay is pretty basic but combat is a blast! A love letter to all JRPG fans. Not super grindy, and really enjoyable. I hope to do a second play-through sometime in the future to better acquaint myself with the battles and all the strategies you can use.

I played the game on a Mac with a laggy gaming reputation and a buncha tiny arrow keys, prepared to suffer frustration and employ a whole bucketload of patience, but I think it is safe to say that the game can easily be picked up and played on every platform you can get it on. I didn’t run into any issues and had a pretty smooth experience. Of course, be mindful of the game’s rating and content warnings before playing, as it can get pretty dark in certain areas and could potentially be triggering for some. The game definitely knows how to build suspense and transitions terrifyingly easily from sunshine and rainbows to the stuff of nightmares. I am not usually a fan of horror, but OMORI really made cowering through all the scary scenes worth it. The scenes in question are masterfully crafted and fun to analyze if you can stop crying at all the freaky stuff like me OTL.
